After splitting the first two games of the Freeway Series at Chavez Ravine, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim now take their series to Angel Stadium.
The Dodgers send the struggling Dan Haren to the mound against one of his former teams. Haren, who holds an 8-9 record with a 4.76 ERA so far this season, has not earned a win since June 30. Despite his solid pitching in June, Haren has gone 0-5 in July and August.
The Angels counter by sending right-handed journeyman Matt Shoemaker to the hill. Shoemaker continued his dominance into August, as he tossed five innings while only giving up two runs and earning a win against the Tampa Bay Rays. Shoemaker is making his first career start against the Dodgers.
After coming off a tough offensive series against the Chicago Cubs, the Dodgers look to build momentum from their recent victory. Third baseman Juan Uribe was the hero last night, as he slugged an early three-run home run and later scored the winning run in the ninth inning.
Uribe isn’t in Wednesday’s lineup however, with Justin Turner getting the nod at third base. Andre Ethier is replacing Matt Kemp in right field, who is the designated hitter.
The Angels have been on an offensive tear and showed no signs of stopping in Tuesday’s contest. First baseman Albert Pujols slugged his 21st home run of the season in the eighth inning to tie the game. Center field spark plug Mike Trout is on the hunt for his first Most Valuable Player award, hitting .305 with 25 home runs and 81 RBIs. The Angeles’ All-Star went 2-4 with a double and a run scored on Tuesday.
