Dodgers Vs. Cubs Recap: Offense Picks Up Kershaw

PAGES: 1 | 2

Kershaw found himself in more trouble the following inning with runners on first and second with two outs and he struck out Chris Valaika to end the threat.

With two runners on in the sixth, Yasiel Puig hit a three-run home run and Ramirez tacked on another run with his RBI double. Brian Schlitter relieved Dan Staily and the pitching change once again didn’t come with immediate dividends for the Cubs.

Carl Crawford greeted Staily with a two-run single and the Dodgers took a 14-3 lead. Jamey Wright pitched a scoreless sixth inning and Scott Elbert did the same for the Dodgers in the seventh.

J.P. Howell took the mound in the ninth and gave up an RBI double to Alcantara before he could record the first out in the inning. John Baker singled to right that scored the Cubs’ fifth run of the game, but it didn’t make much of a difference as Howell retired the next batter.

With the 14-5 win, the Dodgers moved three games ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the National League West standings.
