Dodgers Vs. D-Backs Preview: Yasiel Puig Returns, Bats Seventh

[new_royalslider id=”13″] After winning the first two games of the series, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to complete a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks today at Dodger Stadium. Dodgers pitching has only allowed a combined three runs in the first two games of the series.

Zack Greinke gets the starts for the Dodgers. Greinke is 13-8 with a 2.72 ERA this season. The right-hander has pitched exceptionally well against the Diamondbacks this season, going 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA over three starts. In those starts, Greinke recorded 22 strikeouts to just four walks over 19.1 innings of work.



Trevor Cahill opposes Greinke on the mound for Arizona. The California product is 3-10 with a 5.06 ERA this season. The Dodgers have the definite pitching advantage today as the right-hander has not fared well against the Boys in Blue; Cahill is 0-3 with a 9.98 ERA against Los Angeles this season.

The Dodgers will look to continue it’s offensive success against Cahill. Two players poised to have a big game are Dee Gordon and Adrian Gonzlalez. Gordon is hitting a career .417 with three walks against Cahill. Gonzalez has a .440 career batting average with two home runs and seven RBIs off the right-hander.

The struggling Yasiel Puig is hitting in the seventh spot today for the first time in his career. Puig has not fared particularly well in his career against Cahill as he’s just 2-for-10 with six strikeouts.

Los Angeles enters today’s contest with a two-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West standings. A win today would be the Dodgers’ fourth in six games.
