Dodgers: Walker Buehler Gets the Ball on Opening Day

Earlier this week, Dave Roberts was asked multiple times about his Opening Day starter. That question usually starts to come up around this time in camp, though the MLB lockout has to speed up the process for Dodgers media to ask Doc about it.

Up until today, Doc was hesitant to name his starter. That makes sense given Roberts’ love to keep things a little mysterious around the team and their plans. But the Dodgers do have an Opening Day starter.

For the first time in his career, Walker Buehler will get the ball for the Dodgers to start the season. It does represent a little bit of a changing of the guard, especially since Clayton Kershaw appears to be healthy and on track.

Kersh has been the guy on every Opening Day for the Dodgers that he has been healthy. His run of 8 consecutive opening starts came to an end in 2019 when injuries slowed him down.

But there you have it Dodgers fans, Buehler gets the nod to take the ball against the Rockies in Colorado. Time to get VERY excited about baseball again.

  1. He deserves the start. I did some calculations last fall. He should have been either 1st or 2nd in the Cy Young . Scherzer was the other 1st or 2nd. Walker was our top pitcher for the season. Hands down.
