Dodgers: Watch Dustin May Strikeout Former LA Top Prospect in Triple-A Start

Dustin May hasn’t pitched for the Dodgers since May of last year, but he’s inching closer to making his big league return. May underwent Tommy John surgery last spring and has been steadily working his way back ever since.

The flame-throwing right-hander is currently on a minor league rehab assignment that is expected to last at least a month. May is currently with the OKC Dodgers (Triple-A) and took the hill to pitch in his first game in a long, long time on Friday night against the Sacramento River Cats.

May threw 49 pitches in two innings and despite recently throwing to live hitters at Camelback Ranch, looked a bit rusty. He allowed three hits, three walks, and one earned run, but did strike out three batters.

One of which, was Willie Calhoun, a name many Dodgers fans will recognize.

With the bases loaded and the count full, May blew Calhoun away with a heater.

In 2017, Calhoun was one of the Dodgers top prospects and was the centerpiece of the package the Dodgers sent the Rangers in return for Yu Darvish.

Calhoun played six seasons for the Rangers, but due to underperformance and a frightening broken jaw injury, he never caught on in the majors (.707 OPS in 928 plate appearances).

May on the other hand, still has a bright future in the league. Assuming he continues to build up his arm strength and check all the boxes, he should be back with the Dodgers for the stretch run.
