Dodgers: Watch Dustin May Throw Off the Mound at Dodger Stadium

Saturday was a big day at Dodger Stadium. Hours before first pitch against Cleveland, the Dodgers held a ceremony for the unveiling of the Sandy Koufax statue in the centerfield plaza. It was an incredible event worthy of a legend, but it wasn’t the only out-of-the-ordinary thing that happened at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.

Dustin May took the mound at Chavez Ravine to throw about 40 pitches in a two inning sim game according to The Orange County Register’s J.P. Hoonstra. Luckily, our Dodgers Nation team was at the stadium to provide fans with the footage.

Hoonstra noted that the Dodgers want May to throw four more sim games against live hitters before starting a minor league rehab assignment.

Earlier this week, team president Andrew Friedman was hesitant to provide a timetable for May’s return to the majors (quotes via OCR’s Bill Plunkett).

“He’s doing well and we’re going to keep being methodical about the buildup in terms of putting him in the best position to not only be healthy and strong for the rest of this season but also for as far as we can see out. We’re evaluating that as we go and how things are progressing. We don’t have a firm timetable on that. But he is checking all the boxes for now and that is the most important thing.”

The general consensus among most LA insiders is that May should be back sometime in either late July or mid-August.

Considering that starter Walker Buehler is expected to be out until September with a forearm injury, May will be a welcome addition to the staff whenever he’s ready to return.
