Dodgers: Watch Edwin Rios Crush a Homerun Off of Walker Buehler

The Dodgers’ live batting practices are underway right now on the backfields at Camelback Ranch. And that’s always fun to see, as guys that normally do not face off against each other get the chance to prove what they can do.

On Thursday afternoon, we got an Edwin Rios versus Walker Buehler matchup. And the Dodgers corner infielder made Walker pay, seeing one into orbit during his at-bat. The video below is courtesy of Dodger Insider on Twitter.

Rios is one of those guys that many Dodgers fans forgot about this season. He went down with a  labrum tear in his shoulder and had to undergo surgery just 25 games into the 2021 season. But when he was healthy in 2020, Rios was crushing the ball in limited opportunities. He launched 7 homeruns and put up a ridiculous .946 OPS across 32 games.

His role becomes a little less clear after the Freddie Freeman signing, but Rios could be a huge depth piece for Dave Roberts. The fact that he can play third base will also play up for the team, as they want to try to give Justin Turner days off of his feet this year.

On the flipside, Rios could be an appealing trade piece for the Dodgers if they want t go that route. They do need starting pitching, and a slugging lefty like him could draw in a number of suitors across the league.
