Dodgers: Watch James Outman Hit a Home Run in First Career Major League At-Bat
Dodgers prospect James Outman didn’t have to wait long to collect the first hit of his major league career. Outman made his MLB debut on Sunday against the Rockies, starting in right field and batting in the nine-spot of the order. His family made the trip from northern California for their son’s big day, and they are most certainly glad they made the trip.
In a 1-1 count against Rockies starter German Marquez, Outman launched a two-run home run to right centerfield at Coors Field to send his friends and family into a frenzy in the stands.
With his home run, Outman joined former LA prospect Keibert Ruiz, and others, as just the eighth Dodgers players to ever hit a home run in his first ever career plate apperance.
The newly minted Dodgers outfielder admitted that he was surprised to get the call late on Friday night that he was being promoted to the big league club (quotes via The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya).
“It was a goal of mine to make it up here at some point in the year. But when I got the phone call, I was super surprised.”
Outman didn’t sugar coat anything when it came to the discussion about completely overhauling his swing over the last several seasons in the Dodgers minor league system.
“Just really stiff, not much there. Total rebuild.”
There was plenty there in his first ever at-bat on Sunday at Coors Field.
