The fifth frame was more of the same, as the Dodgers could not get a hit off Heaney and the side was again retired in order. Nicasio came out to pitch in the bottom of the fifth, but was removed in favor of J.P. Howell after giving up a one-out base hit.

Kole Calhoun singled off Howell and it prompted Mattingly to again call on a new reliever. Pedro Baez entered the game and walked Trout to load the bases. Baez’s first pitch to Pujols was a fastball up and in that sent the Angels first baseman out of the batter’s box.

Pujols responded by depositing Baez’s next pitch over the left-center field fence for a grand slam that extended the Angels lead to 6-0. Heaney started the sixth inning and got Puig to fly out before being lifted by Angels manager Mike Scioscia.

Jorge Alvarez continued where Heaney left off, retiring Adrian Gonzalez and Kendrick as the Dodgers were still without a hit. After Joel Peralta tossed a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning, Scott Van Slyke ended the Angels’ collective no-hitter with a leadoff single against Fernando Salas.

Grandal followed by hitting into a force out, and Salas then retired Alex Guerrero and Justin Turner to end the inning. Adam Liberatore opened the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout and induced Carlos Perez into a fly out before turning the ball over to Chris Hatcher.

The hard-throwing right-hander capped off a scoreless inning from the Dodgers’ bullpen by striking out Kyle Kubitza looking. Joe Smith took over for the Angels in the eighth and struck out Kiké Hernandez as part of a 1-2-3 inning of work.

Yimi Garcia retired the Angels in order in the bottom of the eighth, however it was to no avail as the Dodgers couldn’t muster any offense other than a Van Slyke two-out single against Huston Street in the ninth and they lost, 6-0.
