Puig again went down swinging for the second out of the inning, which invariably took the bat out of Gonzalez’s hand as he was intentionally walked. Kendrick worked a lengthy at-bat but was eventually retired on a line out to right field and the Dodgers settled for two runs in the inning and a tie.

Jordan Pacheco pinch-hit for Chris to lead off the bottom of the fifth and struck out swinging. Anderson then retired the following two batters for another scoreless inning. Andrew Chafin took over for Chris Anderson in the top of the sixth and sat the Dodgers down in order.

Uribe made a backhanded stop on a ball hit by Trumbo down the third base line, but his throw was off target and it allowed Trumbo to move into scoring position with one out. Aaron Hill hit back to the box and Trumbo advanced another 90 feet, but he was then stranded at third as Anderson ended the inning with his fourth strikeout of the game.

Scott Van Slyke pinch-hit for Anderson with one out in the seventh and grounded out to third. Rollins attempted to lay down a bunt single, but Chafin made the play for the final out of the inning. Yimi Garcia was the first Dodger reliever called on and all he did was collect two strikeouts as part of a scoreless seventh inning.

After Puig hit a broken-bat one-hopper to second, Gonzalez’s streak of reaching base ended at 10 as he grounded out to Hill, who was playing where a shortstop usually would and made a diving stop. Kendrick grounded out on the first pitch he saw and Chafin had a third scoreless inning under his belt.

Garcia struck out Pollock to lead off the bottom of the eighth and promptly got Inciarte to fly out to center. Goldschmidt got his third hit of the night with a two-out single up the middle that snuck under Rollins’ sliding attempt. Garcia ended the inning by climbing the ladder with high fastball that Trumbo couldn’t lay off and the game remained tied at 3-3 headed to the ninth.

Addison Reed replaced Chafin on the mound and found himself in trouble after getting Grandal to chase a pitch in the dirt for strike three and the first out. Carl Crawford and Uribe both singled but because Uribe’s was hit so sharply to right field, Crawford had to hold at second.

The difference of an extra base loomed large as Pederson flied out to deep right field that would’ve scored Crawford, but instead left runners on the corners with two outs for pinch-hitter Andre Ethier. Celebrating his 33rd birthday Friday didn’t translate to on-field success for Ethier as he grounded out to end the inning.

Joel Peralta collected two strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Puig reached with one out in the 10th on a sinking liner to center that Pollock was unable to make a diving catch on.

Oliver Perez then won the battle against Gonzalez as he got the Dodgers first baseman to hit into an inning-ending double play. J.P. Howell issued a one-out walk in the bottom of the 10th and allowed the runner to move into scoring position on a wild pitch.

Cliff Pennington then stole third base on what was called ball four to Pollock. Dodgers manger Don Mattingly called Puig in and placed him at third base as part of a five-man infield. The unusual alignment didn’t make a difference as Inciarte hit the game-winning base hit down the right field line.
