How are the Dodgers Doing?

The Dodgers entered their previous two series, facing teams that they had been trailing at the series opener. The took three games out of four to the Cardinals before sweeping the Rockies at home. They now lead the NL West by 2.5 games with nine contests left in the regular season.

Why is this Game Important?

In their matchups against the Padres this year, they have won 12 out of 16. They have won their last five games against San Diego. Only once this year have they lost to the Padres at home.

Pitching Matchup

Rich Hill (9-5, 4.02 ERA) vs Eric Lauer (5-7, 4.74 ERA)

Rich Hill has provided the Boys in Blue with at least five innings in each start since the All-Star break. While he is racking up innings, his production has faltered of late. He has allowed four runs in each start this month but has received the run support to win each of his three games in September.

Although the Padres have won just four games against the Dodgers this year, two of those victories came with Eric Lauer on the hill. In two starts against Los Angeles, Lauer has allowed just one run over 14.2 innings. Against teams not named the Dodgers, Lauer is 3-7 with a 5.44 ERA.

Matchup of the Day

Cody Bellinger vs. Eric Lauer

Despite being a lefty-lefty matchup, Cody Bellinger has hit Lauer better than any other Dodger. He has three hits, including a double, in six at-bats against Lauer. Bellinger is batting .306 with seven home runs in his career against San Diego.
