How are the Dodgers Doing?

The Dodgers now find themselves one game back of first place. They have won five straight games, after back-to-back sweeps of the Padres and Rangers. They won their last game on Wednesday 3-1, after seven scoreless innings by Alex Wood. All three runs for Los Angeles came via the longball. Cody Bellinger, Manny Machado, and Yasmani Grandal each contributed solo home runs.

Why is this Game Important?

This series against Arizona is the most impactful set for the Dodgers thus far. They enter the four-game series trailing the Diamondbacks by just one game. A win for Los Angeles with the combination of a Rockies loss on Thursday will result in the Dodgers and Diamondbacks sharing a tie for first place in the division.

Pitching Matchup

Rich Hill (6-4, 3.50 ERA) vs Robbie Ray (3-2, 4.73 ERA)

A pair of lefties will open the series between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. Rich Hill will pitch for Los Angeles coming off a win in his last start, where he tossed six scoreless innings against the Padres. He has won his last four decisions but the Dodgers are just 9-10 in games that he starts this year.

Robbie Ray pitches for Arizona as he searches for his first win since June 27. The Diamondbacks have won just two of his last 10 starts. Ray allowed one run over five innings in his last game against the Mariners.

Matchup of the Day

Matt Kemp vs Robbie Ray

Although Matt Kemp is batting just .196 with one home run all month, he will have a chance to redeem himself on the last day of August. He will face Robbie Ray, a pitcher he has dominated against in the past. Kemp is batting .429 with two home runs in 15 career games against Ray.
