San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Dodgers

Time: 7:10 PM PT

Venue: Dodger Stadium

San Francisco Record: 61-60

Los Angeles Record: 64-57

How are the Dodgers Doing?

The Dodgers are well on their way to a second-half collapse. After falling to the Giants on Tuesday, 2-1, they have now dropped five straight games. Once again, the bullpen took home the loss, this time at the hands of Kenta Maeda. Tensions rose in the seventh inning as benches cleared in a brawl between Yasiel Puig and Nick Hundley.

Why is this Game Important?

If the Dodgers lose on Wednesday, this would be the first time the Giants swept Los Angeles since 2016. The Dodgers’ third-place standing is the lowest they have been in the NL West this late in the season since 2011.

Pitching Matchup

Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-0, 2.12 ERA) vs Derek Holland (6-8, 3.97 ERA)

Hyun-Jin Ryu returns to the Dodger rotation after missing the last three months to a groin strain. Prior to his injury, Ryu threw the ball well with a 2.12 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. Injuries have limited the Korean-born lefty over the past few seasons. He threw 344 innings through his first two seasons with the Dodgers. He missed all of 2015 and has thrown just 161 innings since the start of 2016.

Derek Holland will make his 23rd start of the year for the Giants. He has already faced the Dodgers three times this season. He is 0-2 with a 6.08 ERA against Los Angeles this year.

Matchup of the Day

Brian Dozier vs Derek Holland

Both Brian Dozier and Derek Holland have some previous history, given that they have spent the majority of their careers in the American League. In his career against the Giants’ pitcher, Dozier is batting .313 with a home run in 20 plate appearances.
