When the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Howie Kendrick this past offseason, it was to replace Dee Gordon and provide a consistent bat and veteran presence in the locker room. Thus far he has lived up to the expectations, performing well on the field while remaining healthy and being a leader in the clubhouse.

While no one has had a problem with his play on the field, some people have taken exception to a recent Instagram post of his. After a loss, he posted a photo of himself on the field with his hands in the air with the caption “Answered Prayer. You never know when the Lord will bless you!!!” This post was then followed by a photo of his gun collection, something that is often seen on his Instagram, but it appears some fans took exception.

Kendrick then posted a comment on the photo, responding to the comments:

The Dodgers are currently 56-44 on the season, one game ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. Their play since the All-Star break hasn’t exactly been stellar, as they just finished up a 10-game road trip going 5-5. The Giants went 8-1 in the same timespan, picking up 3.5 games in the standing.

Kendrick is batting .283 with seven homers, 40 RBIs and 45 runs scored on the season while being versatile, hitting well anywhere in the order that manager Don Mattingly has put him.

Since receiving the comments, Kendrick has only posted non-baseball related items such as a chandelier, carpet, a statue, a bag of Chipotle Chips, chocolate milk and this post of a box of batting gloves with the reasoning behind only posting less personal items:

Kendrick is currently one for his last 17, but will look to turn that around against the Oakland Athletics and his former team the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this week.

  1. This crap on “social media” is getting so old. Those of us who have been around the computer world for a long time have always known how different people are behind a keyboard than they are face to face… Now we have a whole world of them.

    1. Good! It isn’t Twitter! Perhaps you’d enjoy Instagram. It’s fun to get to see the off the field side of some of your on the field favorites.

  2. Religion and guns make strange bed fellows, thats my own hit. In any case, both are hot button items, and if a public figure is going to make public posts regarding these, they would be foolish not to expect some blow back. Confronting that blowback, to me is silly, if you don’t like it, why post that stuff in the first place.

    1. Because we have a right to free speech. If everyone keeps their interests that others may deem “controversial” to themselves, then that’s essentially censorship.

What’s wrong with guns and religion going together?

      1. I have no problems with guns and religion going together, just find it strange. Guns kill things, and religion says thou shall not kill, but that’s just me. And I have no problem with Kendrick saying whatever he wants to say, not interested in censorship. I’m just saying if he is going to be a public figure, and make public posts on hot button issues, then don’t cry when not everybody likes what you share, because it is going to happen.

        1. The Ten Commandments actually say don’t murder. There is a difference between that and killing. It also doesn’t say don’t defend yourself…in fact, Peter even carried a sword and used it in defense of Jesus, until Jesus said to put it away.

Just a pet peeve of mine, guns don’t kill people. Guns are inanimate objects. Frying pans are also inanimate objects that can kill in the hands of an angry human…doesn’t make them bad. They can do nothing without people pulling the trigger. If you’re pulling the trigger while pointing a gun at a target, there is no religious problem…however, people that are gullible and/or uneducated regarding guns are scared or offended by the sight of one, even in a picture. That’s ridiculous and they need to gain some maturity.

As for what happened with Howie, I saw it all happen. He posted a picture of a new gun he just bought. It was laying on a counter. It wasn’t killing people or making scary faces. But THEN whiny, liberal, anti gun cry babies started complaining. ABOUT A PICTURE. Time to grow up folks!! Howie was also told by a bunch of dummies to focus on baseball…as if he’s not a human with a real life outside of the game. He did not cry, he did not complain, he did, however, correct them and defend his interests. After that, based on comments he made, I suspect that a PR person told him to remove his gun pictures. All but one have been removed from his account. That is bull shit, all because of whiny, intolerant, immature, anti gun pansies.

But they tell conservatives that WE are intolerant…

          1. Guns are killing tools. I personally don’t care about them, but lets not be silly and compare them to frying pans. There are plenty of places on the internet if you like to liberal bash, or debate guns. None of that applies here. I just say if you are a public figure, and you like to express your views on hot button issues, expect blow back, and don’t cry about it because you should have known better if you can’t handle it.

          2. To be honest, I just thought his response was whiny and weak. First he goes off about fans not knowing anything about baseball and making judgements from their couch. My response to that is tough s**t, you like making 8 figure money, I watch you play, I get to decide if I think you are any good, and that’s just how it works. And I get it that he doesn’t give a cr*p about what people think about his hobbies, so then don’t bother defending yourself if you don’t care.

          3. Guns are objects. Mine are not killing tools, because they don’t kill. They could, but so could my hammers, screwdrivers, hands, truck, etc…the common link is PEOPLE. People are the killing tools, not objects that cannot move or make decisions by themselves.

Discussing guns does apply here, especially since this article is about them…and I did nothing but inform you about the rest of the story, then give my opinion about “grown” people whining about pictures. Sensitive much?

Looks to me like he handled it just fine. Without the crying you somehow perceive from a man responding to critics.

          4. I’m not anti-gun, but to me, your pet argument is silly. Do you think everybody should own an atomic bomb? After all, they’re not dangerous at all, they are just objects, pretty much the same as a screw driver or frying pan.

  3. His sarcastic pictures since the whiny babies spoke up has been hilarious. He’s fun to follow, good humor, great photography, interesting guns. One of my Instagram faves.

  4. He’s right about arm chair quarterbacks and that includes sport reporter types. BTW guns don’t kill people.
