One of the most exciting events of the MLB All-Star weekend will take place tonight at Dodger Stadium. The Futures Game offered a glimpse into the future of baseball. The Celebrity Softball Game offered a glimpse at what a bunch of famous people playing slow-pitch softball looks like. But tonight, baseball fans will get to see some of the best power hitters in the game showcase their talents in the Home Run Derby.
Over the last several years, the Home Run Derby has become almost as popular as the All-Star Game itself. It’s a unique talent showcase that only comes around once a year.
There will be plenty of Dodgers All-Stars in attendance, with legendary lefty Clayton Kershaw likely being among them.
In a recent interview with AM570’s David Vassegh, Kershaw called his shot with who he believes will win the Home Run Derby.
“How do you not take the Polar Bear right? It’s a battle of endurance in the Home Run Derby now. He’s a big dude, but he doesn’t have to swing very hard to hit it over the fence. Seags [Corey Seager] has some home field advantage, he’s hit here the most, but it would be tough for me not to take the Polar Bear in this one.”
It’s hard to disagree with Kershaw. Alonso has won the last two Home Run Derbies (2019 & 2021), and likely would be sitting on three-consecutive derby crowns had COVID not cancelled the 2020 All-Star game that was originally going to take place at Dodger Stadium.
The Home Run Derby fireworks start at 5PM PT at Dodger Stadium.
