Being a member of the Houston Astros just isn’t going to be very fun for a while. After they rocked MLB with a cheating scandal that was exposed before the 2020 season, the Astros have not been given warm welcomes.
MLB fans had to miss out on expressing their feelings for the entire 2020 season due to the pandemic. So when opposing fan bases get to see the Astros live this year, they’re making their voices heard.
The latest fan base to give them an earful is that of the New York Yankees. Other teams around MLB have been loud, but nothing like in the Bronx. Yankees fans showed up with signs, inflatable trash cans, and chants that cannot be repeated without the blur tool.
One fan in New York drew far too much attention, missing the opportunity to show off his hard work. SI featured the fan in an article this weekend who also alleged that security told him of some rule changes. The security guard also told him that the Astros had complained about fan behavior to MLB.
MLB and the Commissioner’s office apparently were unaware of a complaint, so who really knows. But it’s safe to say that fans have not forgotten what the Astros did to the game of baseball. Yankees fans certainly haven’t, especially after getting knocked out of the 2017 ALCS by Houston.
So far, fans in Oakland and Anaheim have also been pretty hard on the Astros to start the year. If Houston did complain to MLB about fans, well…expect it to get a whole lot worse. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
