MLB News: Joc Pederson Will Not Participate in the HR Derby

The Homerun Derby is easily one of the best parts of the All-Star week. While the actual game is the star of the show, MLB fans line up to watch some of the game’s best superstars crush balls into orbit. And getting to do it at Dodger Stadium this year should be something special.

So far, there are 6 spots filled for the derby. That leaves 2 spots open for MLB players to fill out the brackets. In years past, Dodgers fans have relied on Joc Pederson as their go-to comepititor. Joc went all the way to the final round back in 2015 before falling to Todd Frazier. He got knocked out by Vladimir Guerrero Jr in the second round in 2019.

But don’t count on Pederson to participate this year. Now with the Giants, Pederson said this week that he will not be playing in the HR derby in 2022. The San Francisco outfielder is currently dealing with some issues in his neck and back, so he’ll leave the other spots to some other MLB player.

Joc has been a pretty solid power bat over the course of his career. He hit 61 homers between 2018 and 2019 with the Dodgers, and he has 17 in 75 games this year. But while that power has been fun to watch over the years, MLB fans will have to settle for a few other sluggers.
