MLB News: Josh Hader Going to Padres in NL West Reshaping Deal

In a stunning move, the division rival Padres are picking up longtime Dodgers trade target Josh Hader. The All-Star reliever heads to San Diego in a blockbuster swap of star closers with the Show Pads sending Taylor Rogers to Milwaukee in the deal.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan was among those to report the news.

Also heading to the Brewers in the deal are right-hander Dinelson Lamet, left-handed pitching prospect Robert Gasser, and outfield prospect Esteury Ruiz.

The Padres acquire a 4-time All-Star and 3-time NL Reliever of the Year winner with Hader coming to San Diego. While the flamethrower’s numbers aren’t as great on paper (4.24 ERA over 37 games this season), most of his struggles have come lately with 13 runs scoring on him in the month of July alone. Heading into July, Hader had an ERA just over 1 (1.09 ERA) in 26 games.

While the Dodgers weren’t directly tied to the reliever at this deadline, he often has been linked to LA in deadlines past. Still, LA is expected to be on the lookout for bullpen help ahead of Tuesday’s 3pm PT deadline.

  1. Lol at NL west reshaping deal. That’s false! Hader is really good but he isn’t changing the NL west picture. Dodgers still run away with it.
