NL West News: Padres Land Prized Deadline Bat With Adam Frazier Trade

The NL West is going to be an incredibly tight race for the remainder of the 2021 season. With the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants all in a battle for the top spot, each team is expected to be VERY active at the trade deadline this week.

While the Dodgers are expected to go out and get a big arm on the market, the Padres have already got the trade market moving in the NL West. San Diego made a deal this week to land one of the most coveted bats available.

The Padres and Pirates agreed to a deal for second baseman Adam Frazier in a deal involving 4 players. San Diego is sending out 3 prospects in the deal that includes Tucupita Marcano, outfielder Jack Suwinski, and right-hander Michell Miliano. Does it make them favorites in the NL West? Maybe not. But it certainly makes them a threat.

Frazier is slashing .324/.388/.448 in 98 games for the Pirates this season. The All-Star second baseman is OPSing .836 and is playing solid defense at second. Adding him into the NL West makes the Padres more of an offensive threat, something they’ve been falling short on despite having the weapons in their lineup.

The Padres likely aren’t done there either and will probably look to add arms into the mix. They’ll join the Dodgers and Giants as the 3 NL West teams all looking to add a starter over the next couple of days.

It’s heating up and it’s going to be VERY fun!
