After a day of rain all throughout Southern California, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host the division rival Colorado Rockies Thursday evening in the first of a four-game series. The Dodgers and Rockies are two teams that are going in opposite directions at the moment. While the Dodgers have won five of their last six, including a two-game sweep in Colorado a week ago, the Rockies have dropped 11 straight.

While the Dodgers and Rockies started out the season battling for first place, the Rockies 11-19 record is now among the worst in the league, compared to the Dodgers 22-11, which is second behind only the St. Louis Cardinals.

Brett Anderson is on the mound for the Dodgers Thursday night. The former Rockie is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA so far this season. He won his last start, by throwing a complete game (five innings) in a rain-shortened game in Colorado. He gave up six hits and no earned runs in the victory.

The Rockies will counter with right-hander Chad Bettis, who will be making his season debut after being called up from Triple-A. Bettis went 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA in six starts in the minors. All 21 of his appearances for Colorado last year were in relief, going 0-2 with a 9.12 ERA. His last Major League start came in September of 2013.

Juan Uribe returns to the Dodgers lineup after not starting the past four games. The veteran third baseman lost his everyday starting spot due to the production of Justin Turner and Alex Guerrero.

The Dodgers offense has been on a tear recently, especially at home and against the Rockies. Howie Kendrick is 8-for-16 with two homers, three double and six RBIs in four games against Colorado this season. Adrian Gonzalez has also being doing well against Colorado, as he is 8-for-20 with five doubles and 10 RBIs against them this season.

The Rockies will be without their manager Walt Weiss, who just had surgery for an appendectomy Wednesday. Bench coach Tom Runnells will manage the team in his absence.
