The Los Angeles Dodgers look to take three of four games against the San Diego Padres as they complete their first series of a 10-game road trip.

Part of the reason the Dodgers have a season-high 7.5-game lead over the San Francisco Giants entering play Sunday is tied to their success against the division as on the season, Los Angeles is 34-21 against the National League West. Furthermore, the club has won 10 of their last 12 games.

Brett Anderson gets the start for the Dodgers as he looks to take his record over the .500 mark. Anderson is 8-8 with a 3.43 ERA, 3.85 FIP and 1.31 WHIP. The southpaw, who leads the Majors with a 67.1 ground ball percentage, has one career start at Petco Park in which he pitched five innings allowing five hits and three earned runs in a no-decision.

The Padres counter with right-hander Andrew Cashner. The 28 year old has struggled with consistency this season and often failed to get run support, which 5-13 record certainly indicates. Cashner has faced the Dodgers three times this season, throwing a combined 13 innings and allowing three runs (two earned).

Cashner struggled in his first look at the 2015 Dodgers as he gave up three home runs to Adrian Gonzalez and allowed six runs (five earned) in just five innings of work. Gonzalez bats third in the Dodgers lineup on Sunday.

Chase Utley is getting a game off to recover from a collision in Saturday’s game. Justin Turner starts at second base for only the third time this season and first since May 8. He’s logged a total of 18.1 innings at second this season.

With Turner over at second, Corey Seager starts at third base for the second time in the last four games; Seager’s other start came Thursday at shortstop. He’s 4-for-10 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored since being promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers called up outfielder Chris Heisey from OKC ahead of the series finale to give them 34 players on the active roster. In a corresponding move, the club designated relief pitcher Daniel Coulombe for assignment.
