Ray walked Yasiel Puig to put two on with one out, but retired the next two batters as the inning came to a close with the Dodgers leading, 4-0. Anderson again faced some trouble, this time in the bottom of the third.

Pollock smacked a single to center, and went first to third on Tomas’ two-out base hit into right field. Aaron Hill went down swinging for the third out to complete Anderson striking out the side without allowing a run. Ellis drew a one-out walk in the fourth only for it to be followed by Anderson bunting into an inning-ending double play.

Saltalamacchia doubled over Hernandez’s head with one out in the bottom of the fourth, but Anderson again kept the Diamondbacks off the board by striking out the next two batters. That ran his strikeout total to six through four innings. Ahmed gave the Diamondbacks another runner on base with a leadoff single in the fifth.

True to form, Anderson induced a double play, then got Goldschmidt to line out for a scoreless inning. Puig led off the fifth with a base hit and Jimmy Rollins extended the inning with a two-out single. Ellis was unable to extend the Dodgers’ lead, however as he was called out on strikes.

Anderson’s shutout work ended the sixth on a Hill solo home run. Rollins and Turner both flashed some leather on consecutive ground balls to help Anderson get through the inning with the Dodgers lead holding at 4-1.

Anderson batted for himself and led off the seventh inning by striking out. Hernandez singled to left field off Randall Delgado, pulling to within a home run of hitting for the cycle. Kendrick worked a full count before grounding to third, though the Diamondbacks were only able to get one out and Hernandez was running on the pitch.

Delgado hit Turner, then both he and Hernandez moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Hernandez made a wide turn at third and had visions of continuing home, but conceded to Puig’s behest that he stop and retreat to third base. Puig forced Delgado to a full count before striking out swinging to end the inning.

Anderson picked up his seventh strikeout of the game as part of a quick scoreless inning that sent the game to the eighth with the Dodgers still leading, 4-1. Yimi Garcia entered in the eighth and promptly gave up a leadoff single.

The right-hander bounced back to strikeout Goldschmidt, but allowed another base hit that put runners on the corners with one out. Hill’s sacrifice fly cut the Dodgers’ lead to 4-2 and marked the end of the road for Garcia. Adam Liberatore came on in relief and retired pinch-hitter Welington Castillo to end the inning.

Following Josh Collmenter’s walk of Ellis, Adrian Gonzalez pinch-hit for Liberatore in the ninth. Gonzalez flied to center for the first out of the inning and remained hitless in the three games at Chase Field, where he normally hits well. A home run shy of the cycle, Hernandez fouled out.

Collmenter put two on by walking Kendrick before striking out Turner to get out of the inning without giving up a run. Kenley Jansen gave up a solo home run that cut the Dodgers’ lead to 4-3 with one out in the bottom of the ninth. He proceeded to retire the next two batters to convert the save opportunity on a second consecutive night.
