Lamb struck out the side in the third, but not without first allowing some damage to be done. Adrian Gonzalez’s one-out double was followed by a Justin Turner two-run home run and the Dodgers lead grew to 3-0.

Wood retired the Reds in order in the bottom of the third, which was the first inning of the night he didn’t allow a runner to reach. Hernandez hit a one-out single in the fourth and Rollins drew a walk with two outs, but Lamb got out of the inning unscathed by getting Puig to fly out.

Votto walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth, but never advanced as Wood retired the next three batters faced. De Jesus Jr hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the fifth, however the Reds again were unable to get a run across and continued to trail 3-0.

Ryan Mattheus took over for the Reds in the sixth and quickly retired the first two batters faced. A Wood two-out base hit spelled doom for the right-hander as Rollins followed with a two-run home run that extended the Dodgers lead to 5-0.

Phillips singled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and wound up being the last batter Wood faced despite only throwing 88 pitches and his plea with Dodgers manager Don Mattingly to remain in the game when he brought the hook.

Chris Hatcher entered and promptly gave up an RBI double to Frazier. Mattingly made another visit to the mound, lifting Hatcher in favor of J.P. Howell. While Hatcher failed to get the final out of the inning, Howell retired Jay Bruce and the Dodgers led 5-1 through six innings.

Howell worked around a leadoff single in the seventh by getting a double play and the third out on a grounder. Sam LeCure replaced Mattheus in the eighth and quickly set the Dodgers down in order.

On the same day he was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list, Juan Nicasio was tasked with pitching the eighth inning. He walked Votto with two outs, which was followed by a Phillips base hit. Nicasio then walked Frazier on four pitches to load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate in the form of Bruce.

Luis Avilan got the Dodgers out of the jam by striking out Bruce swinging on a breaking ball low and away. Kenley Jansen bounced back from blowing a save opportunity on Sunday to record the final three outs in a non-save situation of the Dodgers’ 5-1 win.
