Gonzalez put a charge into one that Pence tracked down in front of the right-center field wall for the first out in the sixth. Van Slyke and Grandal both followed with groundouts and Hudson had another scoreless inning in the books. Frias matched Hudson’s effort by sitting the Giants down in order and keep the Dodgers within a run of the Giants.

Guerrero knocked a one-out single to center in the seventh and wound up being the final batter Hudson faced. Jean Machi came on in relief for the Giants and got pinch-hitter Justin Turner to hit a would-be double play ball.

However, after fielding the throw from Casey McGehee at second base, Panik threw wide of first, allowing Turner to take second base and the Dodgers to extend the inning. Javier Lopez was then called on to face Pederson, who drew a two-out walk.

Lopez promptly loaded the bases by walking Rollins on four pitches and Giants manager Bruce Bochy went to a double switch. Joaquin Arias replaced McGehee at third base and Sergio Romo took over on the mound. Kendrick laid off Romo’s first patented slider but hit back to the box on a second slider to end the inning.

Adam Liberatore retired the first two batters faced in the bottom of the seventh before walking Panik after getting ahead in the count. The free pass didn’t come back to haunt Liberatore and the Dodgers, as Pagan fouled out on the first pitch he saw.

Gonzalez hit a leadoff single in the eighth and was pinch-run for by Kiké Hernandez. Better speed on the bases may have played a role in Van Slyke’s ground ball only being a force out at second and not a double play.

With Van Slyke now on first base and one out, Grandal lined out to Crawford. Van Slyke was then caught in a rundown for the third out with Ethier at the plate. Hernandez remained in the game and dropped Belt’s fly ball on the warning track in left field. Belt took second on the error and was moved over to third on a Pence groundout.

Belt’s fortunate break on the bases completed as he scored on Chris Hatcher’s wild pitch to extend the Giants’ lead to 2-0. Crawford laced a base hit up the middle before Hatcher managed to get out of the inning.

Santiago Casilla allowed a two-out pinch-hit single to Juan Uribe and walked Pederson to face Rollins, who represented the go-ahead run. Casilla completed the shutout and gave the Giants their fifth win in seven meetings against the Dodgers. By being shut out the Dodgers have scored a combined one run over the last three games, going 1-2 in the stretch.
