Byrd led off the fifth with a base hit and went first to third on what was a Barnhart double as Puig couldn’t make a diving catch. Billy Hamilton’s sacrifice fly put the Reds ahead 1-0 before Greinke managed to get out of the inning.

Cincinnati’s lead didn’t last long however, as Pederson and Greinke clubbed back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the fifth to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. A Votto base hit in the sixth was followed by Frazier remaining hitless in the game as he grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The Reds threatened to tie the game in the seventh beginning with a Byrd one-out double. Greinke then walked Barnhart and remained in the game after a visit to the mound from Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. The decision paid off as pinch-hitter Skip Schumaker lined out and Hamilton grounded out to end the inning.

Baez retired the two batters faced in the eighth, then handed the ball over to J.P. Howell. The left-hander’s appearance was a brief one as he walked Votto with two outs and gave way to Kenley Jansen. The Dodgers’ closer struck out Frazier to end the eighth, and completed the four-out save by tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Dodgers’ 2-1 win helped them keep pace with the San Francisco Giants, who completed a four-game sweep of the Washington Nationals Sunday afternoon.

  1. Nice win tonight. Puig seems to lose concenttration or something not sure what is up with him. Stupid mistakes. He cost the Dodgers a run defensively and he got picked off base. If he prepared like Gonzalez or Greinke Puig would be an elite player. He is so talented it has been too easy for him. He has no grit.
Greinke is amazing. Now 13-2 with an ERA below 1.60 WOW.
Tuesday is Kershaw and then Latos. I hope Latos haas his mind back in order. He has been very bad.
