Plenty of substutions occurred during the inning break. Adam Liberatore took over on the mound, Austin Barnes replaced Ellis, Darnell Sweeney entered at second, Corey Seager was the new shortstop, and Darwin Barney over at third.

In the outfield, Chris Heisey was put in center while Scott Van Slyke manned left. The new Dodgers took care of the Padres in quick fashion as the game remained scoreless. The Padres made their changes to begin the seventh. The new pitcher was Nick Vincent, who was able to retire Van Slyke, Puig, and Gonzalez without allowing a baserunner.

Will Ferrell made his Dodger appearance during the bottom half and fielded a bunt from Rico Noel to register his only out. Following Ferrell’s exit, Josh Ravin pitched the remainder of the inning and struck out each batter he saw.

The Dodgers didn’t get much going in the eighth as new Padre pitcher Shawn Kelley kept Sweeney, Heisey, and Barney off the bases. With Ferrell playing right field for the Padres in the ninth inning, Joc Pederson broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run that easily cleared the right field fence.

Chad Gaudin pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning for the Dodgers, who earned their first win in the last four games.
