Jason Heyward Appears Likely to Return to Dodgers Next Week From Injury

While the Dodgers season has gotten off to a good start, despite some issues in the bullpen, they have dealt with some injury hiccups as well. One of them is an injury to veteran outfielder Jason Heyward, who has been on the injured list dealing with some lower back tightness.

However, it seems that Heyward could be on track to return to the lineup soon. According to Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times, Heyward took batting practice on Friday and should return sometime next week.

“Right fielder Jason Heyward, put on the injured list because of lower-back tightness on April 3, took batting practice and ran wind sprints Friday and appears to be on track to return sometime next week.”

Heyward would be a welcomed addition to the Dodgers lineup, giving them even more firepower on offense. He has only appeared in four games this season, hitting .214 with zero home runs and two runs batted in.

It’s been a slow start for the veteran left-hander but it’s a small sample size to look at. The hope is that Heyward can return to the lineup and provide the team with similar production to what he did last season when he became one of the more valuable members of the team.

The injury to Heyward could have impacted his slow start as well, so there isn’t too much concern at this time. However, the team likely wanted to be cautious with him, if anything to not have this be a lingering issue all season long.
