Blake Treinen Expected to Be on Dodgers’ Opening Day Roster in Korea

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided encouraging news about LA’s top relief pitcher, Blake Treinen Wednesday.

According to Roberts, he informed SportsNet LA reporter Kirsten Watson that Treinen will travel with the team to Korea on Thursday.

Treinen suffered a bruised lung after a hard-hit comebacker to his midsection in his final Cactus League appearance Sunday against the Texas Rangers. According to Roberts, the 35-year-old reliever ‘dodged a bullet.’

Roberts also provided another update on how the right-handed pitcher feels.

“There was a little bit of residual soreness but he said he felt great.”

Treinen is expected to be included in the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster. On Wednesday, he threw 15-to-20 pitches during a bullpen session and seemed encouraged by his performance. With essentially a week off, Treinen might still need a simulated game in order to prepare for regular season action.

With only two regular season games (and only two exhibitions) scheduled for the next 10 days, the Dodgers are expected to have more relief pitchers than usual for the Seoul Series. Treinen’s next regular-season game will be his first since Sept. 5, 2022.

Treinen went 1-1, with one run allowed in five innings, in his only five major league appearances in his last season with the Dodgers. A major shoulder injury wiped out most of his 2022 and 2023 campaigns.

Now Treinen is primed to redeem himself, as the Dodgers are primed to have a major piece of their bullpen back for 2024.
