Injured Gavin Lux, on Crutches, Gets Standing Ovation at Dodgers Opening Night

Dodgers opening night is a special night in Los Angeles. For the 2023 club, it’s a different looking squad but the goal remains the same… bring home another World Series title. That goal took a hit early in spring training when shortstop Gavin Lux was lost for the season after injuring his knee in an awkward play on the basepaths.

Despite the injury and the fact that he’s on crutches, Lux was in line with his teammates during introductions at Dodger Stadium on Thursday. The crowd went wild as his name was called by public address announcer Todd Leitz.

Lux was placed on the 6-0-day injured list before the game and is expected to miss the full season. He’ll be with the team for the next few home stands while he recovers from his ACL reconstruction surgery. After that, he’ll head to the Dodgers’ spring training complex in Arizona to ramp up the intensity in his physical therapy.

The 25-year-old was primed to become LA’s starting shortstop this season before the injury. Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas is taking his place on the field.
