Injury Report: Jon Garland / Broxton / Furcal / Padilla

Jon Garland “Likely” Done For Season…

Tony Jackson from ESPNLosAngeles.com has reported that Jon Garland is likely out for the season. He was kind enough to leave us with a 1-5 record, rocking a 4.33 ERA, all for a bargain price of $5M. The one positive that has came from losing Garland, is Rubby De La Rosa. However, we can’t burn this kids arm to the ground.

  Jonathan Broxton Mystery Unsolved

A week ago, Jonathan Broxton appeared to be very close to returning to the Dodgers. His velocity was up in mid 90’s, and was pain-free…for 2 days. Right before coming off the disabled list he felt stiffness is his elbow and was shut down for a minimum of 3 weeks. It’s very possible we don’t see Broxton for the rest of the season.

  Rafael Furcal Returns To Action

Sunday July 3rd, Rafael Furcal returned to the Dodgers lineup, after missing 1 month on the DL. In 2 games back Furcal has gone 1 for 8 with 3 strike outs. Don Mattingly was forced to send down Dee Gordon, citing he would lose at bats. I expect we see Dee Gordon back shortly.

Vicente Padilla, Neck Surgery Likely Ends Year

Ned had big plans for Vicente Padilla, signing him to a $2M contract. Possibly a starter, maybe a wingman for Broxton, even a chance to be the closer! No, no, and more no. While Padilla at 2M for the year isn’t a bad deal, it simply didn’t work out for the Dodgers. Old News, but Padilla is done for the year after his neck surgery in mid June.

What have we learned about all these players?

Three of them won’t be Dodgers next year, possible all four. One of them is active and probably won’t be for long. If that one does stay active, if producing would likely be traded. All four have underperformed the entire season.
