Jordan Montgomery to Sign With Dodgers’ NL West Rival Diamondbacks: Report

The last major free agent has officially signed. On Tuesday, left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery agreed to a free agent deal with the Dodgers’ NL West rival, the Arizona Diamondbacks, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the deal is for one year and $25 million, with a vesting option of $25 million for a second year.

This is the final major free agent signing of the offseason, and yet another big name player heading to the National League West.

The Dodgers made the first big splashes of the offseason signing Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Teoscar Hernàndez while trading for Tyler Glasnow, but their NL West counterparts have wasted no time catching back up.

The San Francisco Giants added Blake Snell and Matt Chapman late in free agency; the San Diego Padres traded for Dylan Cease; and the Diamondbacks — who were busy early in the winter — made the last big splash in the form of Montgomery.

Montgomery joins a rotation with ace Zac Gallen and free agent acquisition Eduardo Rodriguez, who will open the season on the injured list.

Montgomery played a key role in the Texas Rangers’ World Series run, going 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA. In the regular season, he had a 3.20 ERA across the Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals.

In his career against the Dodgers, Montgomery has a 5.91 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched.
