Tickets for Shohei Ohtani’s Dodgers Debut Sold Out in First Hour
One hour was all it took for the Dodger’s season opener in Seoul, South Korea to sell out.
More than 30,000 people were on the waiting list when tickets went on sale, and the list grew to 40,000 15 minutes later. The Gocheok Sky Dome seats less than 17,000 for baseball games. Compared to Dodger Stadium’s 56,000-seat capacity, the debut of Shohei Ohtani as a Dodger is a tough ticket to grab.
“About 30,000 people were on the waiting list for the Major League Baseball game, the first of two in the Seoul Series, as of 8:05 p.m., and that number rose to 40,000 in the following 15 minutes. Coupang Play, which is selling the tickets and streaming the games, said it was not immediately able to confirm how many people accessed the ticketing platform”

The series marks the first Major League Baseball games played in the country, and fans are eager to see Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Yu Darvish and Ha-Seong Kim suit up for their respective teams.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a small number of tickets will be offered to their season ticket holders and will go on sale in early February.
“I’ve gotten a number of requests from people for the Dodgers’ opener in South Korea and have let them down as nicely as I could,” said Michael Westbay, head of the tourist-oriented JapanBall ticketing service.

The rest of the tickets are reserved for Coupang WOW members and residents of South Korea, although some have already hit the secondary markets. To purchase tickets via Coupang WOW, one must have a Korean phone number and a government-issued identification card.
