Yankees Claim Recently Cut Dodgers Outfielder on Waivers

The New York Yankees have claimed recently DFA’d Dodgers outfielder Taylor Trammell off waivers, the team announced on Thursday.

The Dodgers designated Trammell for assignment when they called up top outfielding prospect Andy Pages earlier this week. Trammell, who the team acquired from the Seattle Mariners in a trade earlier this year, went 0-for-6 as a Dodger.

Trammell was initially acquired when Jason Heyward was dealing with a back injury. The Dodgers elected to add Trammell as he was a left-handed hitter.

Trammell never got a full opportunity, getting just six at-bats, before the Dodgers decided it was time to call up the red-hot Pages. Thus, Trammell was DFA’d, and the Dodgers likely hoped he would clear waivers so he could remain in the organization.

That wasn’t the case, though, as the Yankees claimed him, and will now be taking a chance on the former first-round pick outfielder.

As for the Dodgers, they’re hoping Pages can translate his dominance in Triple-A to the big leagues, and give them a difficult decision once Heyward is able to return.
