Yency Almonte Thanks Dodgers Fans Following Trade to Cubs
The Dodgers and Chicago Cubs agreed to a trade on Thursday that will send relief pitcher Yency Almonte and infielder Michael Busch to Chicago. In exchange, the Dodgers will be getting back two prospects from Chicago, both of which are more long-term projects.
Almonte, 29, took to social media shortly after the trade. He went on to thank the Dodgers fans for welcoming him to the team.
Almonte had agreed to a $1.9 million contract with the Dodgers to avoid arbitration back in November. He was expected to be part of the bullpen for 2024, but the Dodgers needed to make room on the 40-man roster.
He went 3-2 in 49 appearances with Los Angeles last season. Almonte posted an ERA of 5.06 in what was his second year with the team after multiple years with the NL West rival Colorado Rockies.
The veteran suffered a knee injury in August this past season and spent the rest of the season on the injured list.
His 2023 season was nowhere as dominant as the 2022 season when he posted an ERA of 1.02 in 33 games. However, the success didn’t translate to the postseason. Almonte was lit up by the San Diego Padres over three appearances, posting an ERA of 7.71 in 2.1 innings of work.
