VIDEO: Former Dodgers’ GM Ned Colletti On Acquiring Justin Turner And More

Ned Colletti, former Dodgers’ General Manager from 2005 to 2014, was on The Rich Eisen Show recently and talked about his time in the front office and some of the decisions that he made. Colletti’s name can be connected to many great Dodgers over the years, but he focused on Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, and Kenley Jansen.

He had a lot of praise for the All-Star third baseman, and really focused in on how much Justin Turner works in the offseason. Ned Colletti says that they had their eyes on Turner after the Dodgers parted ways with Jerry Hairston Jr., Skip Schumaker, and Nick Punto. He also mentions how initial concerns regarding Turner’s knee caused them to give Turner a minor-league deal instead of a major-league deal.

Ned Colletti talked about Cody Bellinger and Corey Seager next and what he saw in them before they were drafted. Colletti describes them both similarly as players who could slow the game down at such a young age and how they have that in common with some of the best to ever play baseball. He also praises Bellinger’s athleticism, and even says that his defense was already at the major-league level during his senior year of high school!

Check out the rest of what Colletti had to say about the two left-handed youngsters that are making quite the splash in the big leagues.

Lastly, Colletti touches on Kenley Jansen and how he became a reliever. The major reason why he was transitioned from a catcher to a pitcher was because Jansen struggled at the plate, but his arm showed promise. Colletti revealed that Jansen did not agree with the transition at first, but thankfully he stuck with it because he is a vital piece of the puzzle that is this Dodgers team.
