Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig has been a star in the making since his debut in June 2013.
The Cuban outfielder made a splash that year, helping the Dodgers turn their season around and reach the postseason. He followed that up with a strong season in 2014, being named an All-Star and appearing in the Home Run Derby. While he’s dealt with injuries and inconsistency at the plate this season, Puig is still one of the more noticeable players not only on the Dodgers, but in all of baseball.
With the fame has come plenty of criticism, especially from those that believe the 24-year-old doesn’t play the game “the right way”. His bat flips have been a constant knock against him by some, and this year, he’s strayed away from flipping the bat. Puig has improved his style of play since he began in 2013, but he still takes a bit of flak when he does mess up.
Despite all of that, Puig’s star power can’t be denied. He was on the cover of MLB 15: The Show, he draws some of the loudest applause at Dodger Stadium and now he’s the latest athlete to have their own ‘This is SportsCenter’ commercial.
