Friday night’s game against the San Diego Padres started with some fireworks that nobody would have expected before the game.
Austin Barnes blew up for a grand slam in the top of the first, but the real fireworks happened in the bottom of the first after Alex Wood gave up a leadoff double to Jose Pirela.
After a groundout from Manuel Margot, Alex Wood had a few choice words for Jose Pirela who he looked to have accused of stealing signs from second base.
After the inning concluded, the umpires called the managers together because warnings were issued to both sides. Dave Roberts wanted to say a few words to Padres manager Andy Green, but Green was having none of it and it led to the benches being cleared on both sides.
