Guerrero drew a walk to start off the sixth, and Ethier followed up with an RBI triple to give the Dodgers the 4-3 lead. Jeremy Jeffress would end up replacing Fiers after five innings of work. Uribe reached base for the first time in the game and sent Ethier home off of ground ball single and Kiké Hernandez hit a line drive double to put runners on second and third with no outs. Justin Turner came in to pinch hit for Frias and, despite going 4-for-8 in the series against Milwaukee so far, grounded out for the first out of the inning. Pederson drew a walk to load the bases for Grandal, who hit a line drive to right field to send two runners home giving the Dodgers a 7-3 lead. Kendrick grounded out into a double play to end the four-run inning.

Pedro Baez took over for Frias in the bottom of the sixth and recorded one strikeout, one walk and no hits in a scoreless inning. Neal Cotts took over for Jeffress in the seventh. The Brewers reliever hit Guerrero in the right foot, and although visibly hurting, Guerrero stayed in the game and took first. Ethier grounded into a force out at second and the play almost turned to a double play after an amazing stop and flip by Gennett. Uribe ended the inning with a fly out.

In the bottom of the seventh, Baez remained in the game and he seamlessly recorded the first two outs. Don Mattingly would come to the mound and call in Adam Liberatore to replace Baez and Chris Heisey, who was recently called up, to play in left for a hurting Guerrero. Liberatore quickly recorded the final out of the inning.

Rob Wooten took over the mound for Cotts to start off the eighth. Hernandez lead the inning off with a ground ball single up the middle, and Heisey followed up by drawing a walk. With runners on first and second with no outs, Pederson struck out for his third time in the game, but Grandal went yard in the following at-bat for a three-run home run to give the Dodgers a 10-3 lead. Wooten would have to face another three batters before his outing was over.

Sergio Santos took over in the bottom half of the eighth and allowed a run on one hit and a walk. The Dodgers led 10-4 through eight.

Offensively, the Dodgers used two walks and an RBI single by Pederson to make it 11-4. Grandal then followed with his second home run of the day to give him eight RBIs and put the score at 14-4.

Santos was able to close things out and the Dodgers won, 14-4, to split the series.

  1. So this is the hard-hitting Grandal we traded for. Quietly batting .301 now. Wow.

His avg won’t stay that high, but it’s good to see him swing the bat well now.
