The Dodger bats went down quietly in the third, which marked the first time Buchanan retired the side in order. The Phillies managed just one base runner over the fourth and fifth innings and were unable to get a run across.

Greinke added to his big day at the plate by ripping a grounder down the third base line, settling for an infield single on a Franco’s diving stop. Justin De Fratus then gave up a double to Jimmy Rollins, followed by a two-run double to Kendrick. Two fly outs then scored Kendrick and the Dodgers lead grew to 10-6.

Greinke worked around a one-out double in the bottom of the sixth to again keep the Phillies off the board, finishing the inning at 111 pitches. Alberto Callaspo and Joc Pederson both knocked base hits in the seventh, but the Dodgers were unable to add to their lead. Pederson’s single ended his 0-for-23 drought.

J.P. Howell worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh to toss a scoreless inning of relief, and Juan Nicasio did the same in the eighth. Joel Peralta took over in the ninth and allowed a pair of singles, with the latter being of the infield variety.

Peralta came up limping and was replaced by Kenley Jansen, who had been warming up. Jansen allowed a two-run double before stranding the tying runs and closing out the Dodgers’ 10-8 win.
