Rollins hit a hard ground ball up the middle that Gordon made a terrific diving stop on but was unable to cleanly get the ball out of his glove and it was all Rollins needed for an infield single. It was the first of multiple breaks the Dodgers caught as Urena was then called for a balk on a pitch that would’ve been a sacrifice bunt.

Instead, Rollins was awarded second base and Greinke’s bunt moved him to third with one out. After Pederson drew a four-pitch walk, Kendrick grounded to Gordon but Hechavarria’s throw to first was low and pulled Baur off the bag. Not being able to turn the inning-ending double play allowed Rollins to score and the Dodgers led 1-0 before the inning came to an end.

Pitching with a lead for the first time since June 7, Greinke retired the Marlins in order in the bottom of the fifth. David Phelps took over for the Marlins in the sixth inning and worked around a two-out walk to Callaspo to toss a scoreless frame.

Ethier robbed Gordon by making a diving catch on a ball slicing to his right. Had he come up empty, it’s likely Gordon would’ve had an inside the park home run. Yelich hit a two-out single to left, but it didn’t amount to anything as Greinke retired the next batter.

Mike Dunn entered to pitch the sixth inning for the Marlins and appeared to give up a leadoff infield single to Greinke. However, Marlins manager Dan Jennings challenged the safe call and the initial ruling was overturned. Dunn walked Kendrick with two outs and it wound up costing him as Gonzalez hit an RBI double that sailed over Yelich’s head in left-center field.

Dunn then intentionally walked Puig to face Grandal, who worked a full count and drew a walk to load the bases. That marked the end of Dunn’s appearance as Carter Capps entered. Scott Van Slyke pinch-hit for Ethier and put a charge into one, but it was tracked down by Ichiro at the warning track in right field.

Bour kept the ball just inside first base for a two-out double down the line in the bottom of the seventh. The Marlins failed to get on the scoreboard however, as Suzuki flied out to left. Greinke remained on the mound in the eighth, recorded two outs and turned the ball over to Adam Liberatore.

Greinke exited after throwing 101 pitches and lowering his ERA to an MLB-best 1.58. Additionally, he hasn’t allowed a run in the last 20.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile Liberatore made a nice play on a tapper hit in front of the mound to get Gordon at first for the final out in the eighth.

Kenley Jansen allowed a leadoff double before closing out the Dodgers’ 2-0 win. The victory gave them a series win and pushed their road trip record to 4-3 with three more games remaining before a return to Los Angeles.

  1. Two runs are support? I’m glad the Dodgers feel like that.
