The Los Angeles Dodgers resumed their regular season schedule on March 30 in what may have served as a precursor of what was to come. Brian Wilson didn’t appear to be his normal self and gave up three runs in the eighth inning, which was enough to get the San Diego Padres the win. Two days later, it was announced Wilson was headed to the disabled list with nerve irritation in his right elbow.

Meanwhile, Clayton Kershaw’s back injury advanced to a more serious state with news that he would be on a “submaximal” throwing regimen before being re-evaluated in two to three weeks. Initially placed on the 15-day DL, the latest update may have pushed Kershaw’s eventual return into May. Yasiel Puig again made headlines for the wrong reasons, this time arriving late on Opening Day at Dodger Stadium. Manager Don Mattingly scratched Puig from the lineup as a form of punishment and later minimized the severity of the issue.
