It is FINALLY time for Dodgers baseball! The Dodgers lineup is announced and manager Dave Roberts gives an input on AM570 LA Sports on Monday.
Andrew Toles (LF)
Corey Seager (SS)
Justin Turner (3B)
Adrián González (1B)
Logan Forsythe (2B)
Joc Pederson (CF)
Yasmani Grandal (C)
Yasiel Puig (RF)
Clayton Kershaw (P)
This will be Roberts second year with the Los Angeles Dodgers and he is ready for the 2017 season. The 2016 Manager of the Year winner will have to repeat his successful coaching to get the Dodgers to the playoffs once again.
Petros and Money asked Roberts with his decision-making process with picking Andrew Toles as the lead-off hitter on Monday.
“Well, it’s going to change but right now, where we’re at, having Tolesy against a right-handed pitcher at the top of the order. I like his athleticism. Also, like Logan, in the middle of the order..kind of sandwiching Adrián González with Justin Turner and Logan Forsythe to protect him against left-handed pitching.”
Forsythe can hit anywhere in the line-up, so it will ease Roberts mind (maybe a little bit). However, Yasiel Puig will raise problems to Roberts if his season will be anything like last season.
“I think it just going to be tough to navigate. I think Joc Pederson and Yasmani Grandal..these guys really slug and get on base against right-handed pitching and we see Yasiel Puig as our everyday right fielder but against right-handed pitching it’s not as consistent as the other guys.”
Roberts was also asked about how much match-ups are based on his gut.
“As for as match-ups, i think its a big part of our game and with our depth that we have, and i see a platoon in left field and we are going to give Joc Pederson opportunities against left-handed pitching, but to have Franklin Gutierrez, Kike Hernandez, and Scott Van Slyke, I think that each competitive advantage in every situation over the course of the season is a benefit.”
Dave Roberts’ optimism will hopefully transfer onto the players on this Opening Day.
