Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson is making a name for himself. Being one of the teams home run leaders, Thompson continues to produce on the biggest stages. During the Dodgers loss to the Padres, he hit his 7th home run of the year as well as saving the team from another walk0ff home run by Melvin Upton Jr.

Editorial: Trayce Thompson Is Here, and He Is Here to Stay

His production level has been so high fans wonder why manager Dave Roberts hasn’t given him more playing time. The Dodgers young core is made up of Corey Seager, Joc Pederson and Thompson who are all currently the Dodgers home run leaders.

Roberts hears the fans, and says each guy has made a case to play more. Roberts also says he is looking to get Thompson more playing time and seeing if those guys can handle the workload. Most of the fans frustrations comes from the fact that veterans like Carl Crawford continue to struggle, yet get the majority of playing time.

“If I see certain opportunities for [Crawford] against a certain tough right-hander that makes sense I’m going to put him out there,” Roberts tells the Petros and Money Show on Friday. “Carl understands his role … my job is to keep everyone involved and get contributions from everyone … at the end of the day it’s about the overall production.”

Roberts went on to say that Crawford has taken on the role of a mentor to the young guys, and looks for them to benefit from that relationship.

problem is Dave, you are trying to make everyone happy. As a result you are getting little out of anyone.

This team is going nowhere this season. Why not let the young guns get a lot of playing time so they can benefit from the experience. Bring up Micah Johnson and let him learn. Kendrick, Crawford and so on need to step aside. Only you, Roberts, can make that happen.

    Maybe makes us miss Mattingly?
What happened to game coverage here anyway? They won tonight and nothing?

Crawford can mentor from the bench. He’s  not foreign to the pines. He’s on them most of the time anyway.  Being that he’s on the DL more than anyone else. It’s true that Roberts wants to please everyone. But it’s also true what Leo Durocher said, that nice guys finish last. Play the young guys!!
