Dodgers Recall Zach McKinstry and Option Victor Gonzalez

The Dodgers are doing what they do best in keeping guys fresh and ready. On Wednesday, the team made another move to get a fresh bat ready on the bench.

The Dodgers recalled infielder/utilityman Zach McKinstry from the alternate site to meet them in San Diego today. In a corresponding move to make room on the roster, Victor Gonzalez was optioned back to the alternate site.

Dodgers fans could not be more excited about the opportunity to see McKinstry get into some real games. He had a huge showing at Spring Training/Summer Camp this year hitting .414 with 3 homeruns. McKinstry also showed an incredible ability to get on base and to hit for extra bases. More from the Dodgers press release:

McKinstry, 25, will be recalled for the first time in his career and his next appearance will be his Major League debut.  The Ohio native has been in the Dodger organization four seasons, batting a combined .270 (331-for-1226) with 30 homers and 149 RBI across five different levels.

Dodgers’ Roster Notes

The Dodgers added McKinstry’s bat into a lineup that already features a few left-handed bats on a daily basis. Given his defensive capability and success against left-handed pitching, McKinstry could very well start to take at-bats away from  Kiké Hernandez, who has struggled as of late.

Still, McKinstry will be making his big league debut, so who knows what sort of production the Dodgers will be getting out of him.
