VIDEO: Dodgers Benefit From Robinson Cano’s Mental Mistake

Robinson Cano

In baseball there are two kinds of errors: physical errors that get recorded in the stat box and mental errors that do not.

On Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium, Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano had one of the bigger mental mistakes seen this season. Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Paco Rodriguez had just walked Logan Morrison to load the bases with one for the Mariners, but Cano, who was on third base, thought the bases were already loaded and began a slow trot towards the plate. Rodriguez and catcher Yasmani Grandal noticed and Grandal threw to Juan Uribe at third base to get Cano for the second out.

The play played a pivotal role in the game, as the Mariners now had two runners on with two outs instead of bases loaded with one. Rodriguez would retire the next hitter and the Mariners were left without anything to show for their effort.

In the end, the Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the Mariners with a 5-2 victory.
