The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants met for the fifth time in 11 days with both teams clawing for postseason positioning. Tuesday’s game began with the Dodgers already having clinched a playoff spot and their magic number down to three in order to clinch the National League West division.
Justin Turner hit a leadoff home run in the first inning to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead and a shot of life in the arm. The emotion quickly boiled over as the next batter, Yasiel Puig, was hit by a Madison Bumgarner pitch on the left ankle.
Puig went down to the ground and glared at Bumgarner over his right shoulder. The Giants lefty appeared to yell towards Puig direction, who quickly rose to his feet and made his way towards the mound. Both benches and bullpens cleared as the umpires worked to break up the fracas and issued warnings.
Players were not ejected and there weren’t any further issues the rest of the way.
