Dodgers: Brandon Crawford Questions Dave Roberts’ World Series Prediction

The first day of the Major League Baseball season. It’s a special day for a lot of different reasons. Teams and fans are excited about the potential of what the new season could bring, and for one day, every team carries the same record. The possibilities are endless. Dodgers fans have to be feeling like this year could be another title year.

Dave Roberts certainly thinks so. The Dodgers skipper boldly proclaimed last week that Los Angeles would finish out the year with a World Series title. He doubled down on that to reporters at Chavez Ravine during the Freeway Series.

But the Giants have to be wondering where that’s coming from, especially after the run they had last year. Gabe Kapler didn’t really fight back on it, but shortstop Brandon Crawford had some words for the Dodgers manager this week.

“He probably thought that last year, too. A manager saying that out loud in a public interview is a little surprising, but I think every manager with a good team thinks that going into any spring. Baseball’s such a long season, you never know what’s going to happen. I’m not going to sit here and say that we are going to win the World Series, but that is our goal at the end of the year.”

Roberts clarified that every manager should start their season thinking World Series or bust. And if you’re a fan, that’s the sort of energy that you want from your team. There is a lot of pressure on the Dodgers for this powerhouse lineup to perform, and anything short of a championship would be a disappointment.

But Doc isn’t pulling that claim out of thin air. The Dodgers have made it to 3 of the last 5 World Series. The lineup that they have been able to assemble this year despite losing key pieces is phenomenal. So they do have a very real shot, and there is a reason that they are the current favorites to win.

It’s going to be an exciting year for Dodgers fans. World Series or bust.

  1. This is the thinnest(worst?) starting pitching staff they have had in years. Of any year to predict a WS win this isn’t the one. Plus announcing to the world you think you are better than them isnt too smart.
Don’t get me wrong, I think they have a good chance, but only if they don’t have another multitude of injuries, only because their bullpen will carry them, and only if the mid season additions of May,Duffy, Pepiot etc pan out. Also this great lineup needs to start hitting!
