The seemingly never ending story of injuries this season for the Los Angeles Dodgers struck again as it was reported Chris Withrow has a torn UCL in his right elbow and Tommy John surgery has been suggested.
Withrow was sent down to the minors May 21 when Hyun-Jin Ryu was reinstated from the disabled list, but the right-hander had yet to officially be added to the roster. Withrow made 20 appearances for the Dodgers, had a 2.90 ERA and was a likely candidate to return to the big league roster at some point this season.
His demotion was more a matter of him having options available than the Dodgers being unhappy with his work. While Withrow is seeking a second opinion, it is likely the ultimate result will be him undergoing the dreaded Tommy John surgery.
