Dodgers News: MLB Executives List LA and Padres as Favorites for Juan Soto

Juan Soto is going to be the only name that you hear around MLB for the next week. With the trade deadline 8 days away, Soto is sure to be the guy that teams check in on frequently. Whether the Nationals actually move him remains to be seen, but the Dodgers will at the very least check in on his availability.

But they are far from the only team interested in acquiring him. Aside from the Dodgers, the Padres and Cardinals have most often been the 2 teams linked to acquiring him. And it sounds like he is heavily favored to land in the NL West this year if he’s moved.

According to MLB’s Mark Feinsand, the Padres are viewed as number 1 and the Dodgers as number 2. That came from polling of 17 front-office executives, 8 of whom went with San Diego and 7 with Los Angeles.

Obviously, the speculation soared after Soto turned down a $440 million extension offer from the Nationals earlier this month. That set the stage for the Nationals to at least consider trading him. But the Dodgers being involved at all might be enough for the Padres to go all in on a Soto deal, and they have the prospects.

But to be fair, 8 of the 17 executives polled said they did think Soto would be traded by the deadline. Of the 17, there was a pair that chose to not answer the question. So it’s very hard to gauge what will happen over the course of the next week. But with the Dodgers a whopping 11.5 games over San Diego, it could get very interesting.

  1. I suggest offering a few prospects, and throw in Bellinger. He is a former MVP, gives them a golden glove defensive outfielder to replace Soto, and they could take a chance that he gets his MVP ability back.

  2. One advantage to signing Soto that nobody is talking about – Trea Turner loves the guy and already said he wants to play with him again. Getting Soto will make it easier to re-sign Turner. I say give up some prospects, Cody Bellinger, McKinstrey, and Craig Kimbrel.
