Dodgers Recall RHP Phil Bickford From Triple-A

The Dodgers will play one more game against the Reds today going for the series sweep. After three wins over Cincinnati, they will turn to Andrew Heaney to try to get the win over RHP Tyler Mahle. Heaney is coming off of a very good start in Minnesota despite a rocky Spring Training.

To help with today’s game, the Dodgers are bringing Phil Bickford back into the mix. The right-handed hurler got a little bit of a slow start to Spring Training and needed some more time to prepare. He ended up appearing in three games for Oklahoma City before the recall.

Bickford was one of the surprise standouts of the Dodgers bullpen in 2021. He went 4-2 with a 2.50 ERA across 50.1 innings of work and punched out 59 batters. Originally drafted by the Giants in the first round back in 2015, Los Angeles swooped in to scoop him up last year.

Bickford adds to a Dodgers bullpen that already appears to be incredibly deep. Getting to add in Tommy Kahnle and Caleb Ferguson over the next month or so will only further strengthen what should be a very good relief team.

In order to make room for Bickford on the roster, the Dodgers sent Garrett Cleavinger back to Triple-A. Cleavinger appeared in one game for Los Angeles this season and got dinged for a run across 0.2 innings of work.
